Private rooms at a glance
Everything you need to run a game with your own group.
Invite-only access
Private rooms aren’t listed publicly. Only people with your invite link or room code can join.
Share a link or a code
Copy the invite link or the 6-character room code and send it anywhere — chat, text, or email.
Host sets the rules
Player count (2 to 8), starting cash, and public or private — set before the game starts, by the host only.
Rejoin if you drop
Lose your connection? Reopen the room link and you’ll be dropped back into your seat.
How private rooms work
From creating the room to the first roll.
1. Create the room
On the Play page, enter your name and hit Create Private Room. You’re now the host, and the game gives you a 6-character room code plus an invite link — both shown in the lobby so you can copy them with one tap.
2. Get friends in
Share the invite link or the code — whichever is easier. In a group chat, paste the link; in person, read them the code. Friends open the link (or type the code on the Play page), pick a name, and they’re in the lobby. No account, no download. Only people with the link or code can join, so strangers can’t wander in.
3. Set it up, then start
While the room is open, the host decides how many players (2 to 8), how much starting cash everyone gets, and whether the room stays private. The host presses Start — the room needs at least two players to begin — and the settings lock once the game is underway.
4. Leave and come back
Rooms aren’t tied to one person. If the host leaves before the game starts, the host role passes to the next player in the room. And if you lose your connection, just reopen the room link — a reconnect token on your device drops you straight back into your seat.
Private room questions
Can strangers join my private room?
No. Private rooms are invite-only — only people with the invite link or room code can join. The host can switch the room to public before the game starts if they’d rather open it up.
How do my friends join?
Two ways: open the invite link, or enter the 6-character room code on the Play page. Either way they just pick a name — no account needed.
What settings can the host control?
Before the game starts, the host sets the player limit (2 to 8), the starting cash, and whether the room is private. Settings lock once the game begins.
What if I lose my connection mid-game?
Reopen the room link — RentNation keeps a reconnect token on your device and puts you back in your seat.
