How to Play RentNation
Welcome to RentNation! The objective is simple: become the wealthiest player by buying, renting, and selling property, while forcing your opponents into bankruptcy.
Getting Started
Each player starts with a fixed amount of cash. Players take turns rolling two dice and moving their token clockwise around the board.
Winning the Game
The last player remaining after all other players have gone bankrupt is the winner.
The Board Spaces
1. Properties
When you land on an unowned property, you can buy it for the printed price. If you choose not to buy it, it may go up for auction. When you own a property, you collect rent from opponents who land on it.
2. Color Groups & Houses
If you own all properties of the same color group, the rent is doubled on unimproved properties in that group. You may also begin building houses on these properties to charge significantly higher rent. Once you have four houses on a property, you can upgrade to a hotel.
3. Special Tiles
- Start/GO: Collect a salary every time you land on or pass this space.
- Jail: You can be sent to Jail by landing on "Go to Jail", rolling doubles three times in a row, or drawing a specific card. While in jail, you can still collect rent, but you cannot move until you roll doubles, pay a fine, or use a Get Out of Jail Free card.
- Vacation/Free Parking: A safe resting place where no rent or fines are paid.
- Chance & Community Chest: Draw a card and follow its instructions.
Trading & Mortgages
You can propose trades with other players at any time. You can trade cash, properties, and Get Out of Jail Free cards.
If you are low on cash, you can mortgage unimproved properties to the bank for half their value. You cannot collect rent on mortgaged properties. To unmortgage a property, you must pay back the mortgage value plus 10% interest.
Bankruptcy
If you owe more cash than you can raise from your assets, you are declared bankrupt and eliminated from the game. If you owe a player, all your assets (cash and properties) are transferred to them. If you owe the bank, your properties are auctioned off to the remaining players.
